Both the plasma cannon and autopulse laser are decent choices for its large energy mounts because your goal is to put lots of damage on the enemy in a short period of time, then plasma burn out to fuck off, vent, and come back. Remember that you have a capital ship's PPT and hullmods, so you can take advantage of ITU and your natural high speed - there are literally destroyers that are slower than you, and only a few cruisers are faster than you - to keep yourself at the edge of the enemy's range. (I actually find that shield conversion front is really good for the Odyssey, because you get full 360 coverage and lowered shield upkeep, and IME you should only be turning your shield off when you're well out of range of the enemy). Use your fighters for getting a little bit of extra damage on enemies when it really counts - having Longbows on an Odyssey is kind of fun for having, essentially, infinity Sabots. You should be burning past enemies in a slashing trajectory, in my experience, and then curving back to hit them again rather than the Conquest, which favors keeping your broadside on the enemy. The trick is that plasma burn and the Odyssey's natural high speed and good flux stats make it really good at high-speed slashing attacks. Just take Maneuverability, I haven't really had issues with the Odyssey's turning.
